KYC — “Know Your Customer” — is the identity check every UK-licensed casino has to carry out. At Spinbob it’s straightforward if you know what’s needed, and most players are fully verified within a few days. Get it right first time and your first Spinbob withdrawal won’t be held up waiting for documents.
Why UK casinos verify you
Verification isn’t Spinbob being awkward; it’s a legal requirement. UK gambling rules require operators to:
- Confirm you’re 18 or over before you can deposit or play.
- Confirm you are who you say you are, to prevent fraud and identity theft.
- Prevent money laundering, which means knowing where money comes from.
- Protect players, including checking affordability and matching accounts against GAMSTOP self-exclusions.
These checks also protect you: nobody else can easily open an account or withdraw money in your name.
When Spinbob verifies
- At registration. Your name, date of birth and address are checked electronically. Often this is enough to confirm age and identity instantly.
- Before your first withdrawal. KYC must be complete, so you may be asked for proof of address and proof of payment method.
- Later, if needed. As your deposits grow, or if something on the account changes, you may be asked for enhanced checks (source of funds / affordability).
Our registration guide explains the sign-up details to enter so they match your documents.
Accepted documents
| Purpose | Accepted documents | Key rules |
|---|---|---|
| Photo ID | Passport, UK driving licence, national ID card | Valid (not expired), all four corners visible |
| Proof of address | Utility bill, council tax bill, bank statement | Dated within the last 3 months; your name and address as registered |
| Proof of payment method | Card photo; e-wallet screenshot | Card: cover the middle 8 digits and the CVV. E-wallet: show your name and account email/ID |
| Enhanced checks | Payslips, bank statements, P60, tax return | Only when requested; recent and complete |
How to take good photos of your documents
Most rejections are about image quality, not the document itself. For an accepted Spinbob KYC upload first time:
- Use good, even light — daylight near a window, no flash glare on laminated cards.
- Lay the document flat on a dark, plain surface.
- Show all four corners and edges. Cropped documents are rejected.
- Keep it sharp. Tap to focus; hold still or rest your phone on something.
- Colour, not black-and-white, and no filters.
- Upload the whole page for bills and statements, including the date and your address.
- Don’t edit anything except the parts you’re told to cover on a payment card.
- PDFs are fine for downloaded bank statements — don’t screenshot a PDF if you can upload the original.
How to upload your Spinbob documents
- Log in and open My Account → Verification.
- Choose the document type (ID, address, payment method or other).
- Upload the front — and the back, for a driving licence or ID card.
- Submit and wait for the status to change from Pending to Approved or Rejected.
- If rejected, read the reason, fix it and upload again.
If you can’t see the Verification section, ask 24/7 live chat. Never send ID by social media.
How long verification takes
Typical review time is 24–72 hours after you upload complete documents. Uploading at sign-up rather than when you want to withdraw is the single best way to avoid waiting. Enhanced source-of-funds reviews can take longer, depending on what’s requested.
Rejection reasons and fixes
| Rejection reason | Fix |
|---|---|
| Blurry or low resolution | Retake in good light, check it’s readable before uploading |
| Cropped / corners missing | Leave a small border around the whole document |
| Document expired | Use a different, valid photo ID |
| Proof of address too old | Use one dated within the last 3 months |
| Name or address mismatch | Ask support to correct your profile, or upload a document matching it exactly |
| Card details not covered correctly | Cover the middle 8 digits and the CVV only — leave the first 4 and last 4 visible |
| Screenshot of a document | Upload the original file or a photo of the paper document |
| Third-party payment method | Only methods in your own name are allowed |
Source-of-funds and affordability checks — explained calmly
If Spinbob asks for payslips, bank statements, a P60 or a tax return, don’t worry: it doesn’t mean you’ve done anything wrong. UK operators must check that gambling is affordable and that money is legitimate, and these checks are increasingly routine as deposit levels rise.
What helps:
- Send what’s asked for, in full. Partial statements usually lead to a second request.
- Recent documents — typically the latest few months.
- Explain unusual items briefly (a bonus at work, a house sale, an inheritance).
- Ask what’s needed if the request is unclear.
While a check is open, your account may be restricted. If that happens, our account-blocked guide covers what to expect. If the check prompts you to reflect on how much you’re spending, deposit limits and time-outs are available — see responsible gambling.
Common KYC situations
You’ve moved house recently. Update your address with support first, then upload a bill or bank statement for the new address dated within the last 3 months. A council tax bill is often the easiest document to get quickly after a move.
Your bills are in a partner’s name. Proof of address must be in your own name. A bank statement sent to your address usually solves this, even if household bills aren’t yours.
You changed your name. If your ID shows a different surname from your account, upload the marriage certificate or deed poll alongside it, or ask support which document they need.
You use a digital-only bank. Downloaded PDF statements from Monzo, Starling, Revolut and similar banks are normally fine, provided they show your name, address and a date within the last 3 months.
Data security
Your documents should be handled under UK data-protection law, stored securely and used only for verification, fraud prevention and legal compliance. Spinbob’s privacy policy sets out how long they’re kept; our own privacy page covers this site. Practical tips: upload only through the casino’s Verification section, cover card numbers as instructed, and be wary of anyone contacting you asking for documents outside that process.
Once you’re verified, withdrawals move much faster — see our withdrawals guide.
